19 Social Media / Networking Sites For The Boomer Generation

posted by Christopher on October 30, 2007

{{chris}} During some recent research into the boomer market we came across a list of really interesting social media sites specifically for the boomer age group.

Believe it or not the boomer age group is moving on line fast! More importantly, as a demographic they have a significant amount of disposable income. So if you’re looking to target this demographic we highly recommend you look into the following social networking sites:

  1. eons
  2. BOOMj
  3. reZOOM
  4. Boomer Towne
  5. Boomer Girl
  6. eldr
  7. Redwood Age
  8. BoomSpeak!
  9. eGenerations
  10. Boomer Time
  11. Growing Bolder
  12. Boomer Living
  13. TeeBeeDee
  14. Life Two
  15. My Boomer Place
  16. My Primetime
  17. Second Prime Time
  18. Maple and Leek (UK)
  19. GrownUps (NZ)

Here is a stat which may catch your attention. Adults 50 and older own 65% of the aggregate net worth of all US households. If you’re not thinking about marketing to this demographic, perhaps you should consider it!

Has anyone advertised on these sites yet? Any personal results/stories? What kinds of ads do they use? Lots of questions- I didn’t know these were out there

Irony Plus offers an “interesting and ironic look at the world for those 50+”. From jokes and one liners, to caption contests and word games, Irony Plus is a place to have fun and enjoy the lighter side of life.

On occasion the forum drifts into more serious topics like a grandparent’s rights and retirement plans, but even there the focus is mainly on fun. Many members make use of the forum for games and contests and this month, people can take part in a springtime scavenger hunt or compete to see who has pulled the most outrageous April Fool’s Day prank.

To help the 50+ crowd get started on the network, there is a Newbie Guide and some basic tips on how to format text using HTML tags. It’s a great way to get new members up to speed and get them to take advantage of all the flexibility they have to customize their page.

So if you’re over 50 — or just preparing for that day — have some fun on Irony Plus!
