Instructables.com - Good for Traffic and Links!
I came across this site today and was impressed by the concept. As usual, I investigated further and wanted to see if instructables.com held some SEO value and traffic value. Low and behold, it does!
The site and concept is really cool - somewhat of a hybrid between Yahoo Answers, YouTube, Flicker and others. It is a social site for learning and teaching others “how to” do things like replace LED lights in your keychain, make knitted octopus pets, or even make burlesque tassels - if your into that sort of thing!
It looks like you can register and account and post instructional videos, slide shows and written explanations about whatever it is you want to share with the community. Within the post, you can also post what looks to be a followed link back to a website. The individual page rank on a particular instruction site isn’t very high but if you do have a valuable video that gets promoted to the first page, you will probably get some great traffic out of it!
So there you go… happy late Valentines Day… no go make some burlesque tassels!

Great tip on Instructables. Seems kind of like a more media intensive and focused Squidoo. Definitely worth giving a shot…

Great pointer, thanks! I guess it is becoming hard for entrpeneurs to come up with original ideas for networking sites. But this seems to be a great one.

We get maybe 15 clicks a week from people looking for instructions on replacing mouse batteries. Next week we’re going to post instructions on that site and will let you know how it turns out in a few weeks.
Cool find.

I have to say that I really like the ideas behind this site and it is certainly another interesting mash up of elements from other style sites. I can see it being useful not only as a means to a ‘real’ link but also as a possible place for help.
I am sure that we will see more and more of these mixed functionality sites - a bit like the person who stuck a smoke detector on top of a toaster to send when the toast was starting to brown to then cut the power supply and create the perfect piece of toast!

“Yahoo Answers, YouTube, Flicker and others. It is a social site for learning and teaching others “how to” do things like replace LED lights in your keychain, make knitted octopus pets. . . .”
So can they help me come up with a better recipe for banana bread, too?

@ InjuryProne
Maybe they could. If some user of Flickr or Youtube is a good cook. He could maybe share a cook video. If I was cook I would, so you can get on local level customers to your restaurant.
