Search Engine Optimization Link Building Has A “Snow Ball” Effect
Search Engine Optimization Link Building is much like rolling a snow ball down a hill. After a while you start getting links that you never requested yourself.
A large part of search engine optimization includes the creation of back-links to the site being optimized. As a result we spend quite a lot of time developing links. The wonderful thing about the process is that you don’t always have to fight hard for every single link you want. If you do a good job, in the beginning you will find that every link you get is one you clearly created - but after a while you will have accomplished the following:
- Produce some good quality content worth linking to
- Connected with influential people online in your industry
- Linked out to enough people to get noticed
- Promoted the content of enough people to get noticed
Once you’ve done the above - you’ll beging to notice the number of links to your site growing at a rate faster than you are requesting / creating them. Why? Because the relationships you’ve made on-line (whether you really know them or not) are producing links for you. As it turns out - there are many people on-line working to promote their sites too. All you need to do is get your site plugged into that network and y0u’ll see your back-links grow at a faster rate than your requesting them. Just like a snow ball being pushed down a hill!
So get out there (on-line) and start promoting your content and participating in conversations on-line. People will take notice and they may just thank you by linking to your site - or promoting your content on someone else’s site!

Yes I agree, especially once your site has attained a PageRank of 2 or more. As you’re site gets on the first two or three pages on the search engines you’ll find that you get bombarded with people saying that they’ve already linked to your site in the hope that you reciprocate the favor.

Well put Roy. I was struggling at the start of my webmaster career. Sites were PR0. Ever since they hit PR3, things got so much easier. I agree with this article, every word.

I agree - once our site hit PR2 we started to see an increase in non requested backlinking. Now we’re sitting at a PR3.

We do not need tons of inbound links to get high PR. Right now at this moment, we are talking about quality of inbound links such as relevant links within content and so on. However, snow ball effect is indeed noticeable once you produce good content or tools.

Hey Rif Chia,
I agree completely - it’s not quantity of links any more that counts but rather quality!

Couldnt agree with you more on it being a snowball effect. But I’ve been testing out that getting PR doesnt really require alot of relevant links, just enough links that have PR and some other criterias. Like the author puts it, link building is a snowball effect. So all you need to do really is just get links that advertise your blog and people will do the relevant linking later on :)

Hey Jasa,
I think the definition of quality links is quite broad. So I agree with your statement that you need to first build links to your site - just being sure that they are not on spammy sites! That’s a good enough link to start with. If you can afford to focus on high quality links - then your best to do that too!

I believe it would just came naturally like that. When your exposure increase they will be a time when people will start noticing you. It doesn’t matter whether you bring positive or negative things to the Net whenever someone mention you on the Net they will give backlink to you.

I certainly hope that the backlinks snowball. Also, I love snowballs :) I have only just started my sites, am having trouble getting links, since most ‘good’ sites don’t even have ways of asking for a link, and a lot of them would see me as a competitor. So I guess I am limited for now to forums and blogs etc. I am working on creating new content, so hopefully one day I will start ‘earning’ so good backlinks.
Nice read, and I also read some other posts. I am new to this SEO stuff, and you have taught me a few things ( I think )
thanks

I’m glad the information is coming in handy! When it comes to back links you have to start at the bottom and work up. Overtime your site will become popular enough that you’ll be getting good links without requesting them.
Snow balls are great! We’re in Toronto, ON, and just had what looks like 15 cm of snow fall on us. I just finished shoveling my driveway and am looking forward to working from home today.
