It’s official - we’ve got access to Microsoft’s Webmaster Portal Tools!
Over the BETA period we’re going to test the tools out using real sites. As part of the BETA
program we can’t disclose what we find but rest assured we’ll be making the best of it, and sharing what we can with you.
If you have questions feel free to ask. We’ll do our best to answer them without violating the terms of use.

What is Microsoft Webmaster Portal Tools? Is it similiar to googles webmaster tools? Just never heard of it even though it is new.

I think its the same as google webmaster tools. I wonder what feature they have that google doesn’t offer.. Can I get an invite? :)

That’s right - it’s the same as Google. I don’t think they are offering anything new, atleast I have not seen anything new yet. It’s basically the ability to add a sitemap and explore their bots interaction with your site.

With respect to invites - BETA users can’t invite people, but I think you can sign up by emailing lswmp@microsoft.com. Email your Live ID and simply ask for an invite to the BETA of the program. That’s all we did and a few weeks later we finally got the invite emails.

Finally Microsoft did it!!!! Microsoft should have created their webmaster tools a long time go, but as usual they are late.

You’re right - it’s about time they did something! I am surprised it took them this long.

Like others have said, the real surprise is that it took so long for them to roll this out. Microsoft has been getting more and more serious in the web arena. Visual Web Dev Express was pretty nice, Expression Web, as much as I hate to say anything at all positive about something that grew out of FrontPage, is a lot better than I expected. And now Silverlight.
With all the emphasis they’ve put on web developers it’s about time they gave us some info on how their bots see our sites…!

well said! I posted on this blog a little while ago, that it feels like Microsoft is putting a real push on innovation - by doing so they stop of mind, just as google does. What they need to do is name things properly now!

I too have gotten the Beta access, Overall its nice, but why can’t I get much details about my backlinks? It only shows I think top 10 of my backlinks. That’s bad.

Is it similar to Google Webmaster?

Yes it is!
