Coming Soon to an OS near you – Google Chrome
July 8th, 2009 by hbond{{adam}}It finally happened – Google decided to cross over and start playing in Microsoft’s back yard, well perhaps that isn’t an accurate analogy – Google will be playing in Microsoft’s living room, with its toys and eating its chips (better
). Google announced it will be releasing a Chrome OS, due for shipping in 2010. Here it is, directly from the horses mouth:
Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks. Later this year we will open-source its code, and netbooks running Google Chrome OS will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010. Because we’re already talking to partners about the project, and we’ll soon be working with the open source community, we wanted to share our vision now so everyone understands what we are trying to achieve.
I wonder if Chrome the browser will come pre-installed and defaulted to Google’s search page… and I wonder if they will make it difficult to run Microsoft Explorer… inquiring minds want to know.

What about the fact they have not built a developer base to develop for the new o/s? How will it succeed without applications?
If you ask me mozilla firefox is the best internet browser
thanks for this topic
The thing about the chrome browser is that it records all you activity and the guys at google can monitor it.
If this is the case with a simple enough web browser, just imagine what the OS would do!!!
Whatever the case, it is very hard to beat windows and the mac os when it comes to brand value.
If you look at it, the linux os is much better than either and is even rumored to be used by microsoft servers!
But, linux is still not as popular as windows or mac.
I d like Mozilla -cool browser.Nice post.Thanks for information.
Google Chrome is just great. No comparison for Google Chrome.

I look forward to Googles Chrome, I am running windows 7 right now – wonder how its going to stack up against MAC as well.
I use the browser Flock, Its really a good browser, I am waiting to see the new Google os Chrome.
Its the lightest and the best browser that had come in the market
May be they will offer an option trough the installation to install chrome browser etc. if they don’t they can face the law court as microsoft did for IE.
Thank you very much for this useful article and the comments
