Creating a Review Site With WordPress
February 13th, 2010 by hbond{{chris}} I’ve been working on quite a few wordpress sites for a few clients and in the process came across the need for a reviews plugin. In the research process I came across some pretty amazing review plugins. The good ones are not free like most WordPress plugins. However, I have to admin the ones I found are worth paying for. I’ve not tried them yet but I plan on doing so over the next several weeks. I’ll keep you posted on my thoughts as I have a look at them.
The first one I’ll be testing out is called WordPress Review Engine and the developer license cost $169 which allows you to build an unlimited number of site with the plugin.

Nice find Chris.
One thing to be aware of with review plugins in particular is scalability. I have first hand experience with the majority of plugins and all of them seem to have the same problem, efficiency. When your review site gets large enough those ratings and linked ip addresses to prevent fraud can really increase the size of your DB and the page load time.
When you realize the plugin is using up too many resources, it’s too late. You can’t just switch to another plugin/engine because you’ll lose all your ratings/reviews.
Polldaddy have a new beta ratings widget that I think you should look into. It loads asynchronously and you can let them worry about scaling and managing resources.
Best of luck with the hunt! I’ll be sure to check this one out.
Thanks for sharing that experience Dave – I’ll let you know how it goes and I’ll check out Polldaddy too!
Thanks for great article.
I agree creating a review site with wordpress is more beneficial than own one because of different themes and plugins are available in wordpress automatically.
WordPress Review Engine, well that’s something new for me. thx for sharing
Thanks for the headsup. Looking forward to your review review.
Thanks for sharing!!! cant wait for your review!!!

Great article Chris but the real game is how cleverly the guy monetize the review site
Nice article. @Recruiting Agency- I think the most common monetization strategies should be Affiliates and ad sense on a wordpress review site.
