Delegating Done Right!
May 28th, 2008 by hbond{{stephanie}} One of my favourite things to read in the morning at work is the Wikihow’s How To’s for the day. What I love about them are that they are practical, 99% of the time they are helpful and overall, they are great reminders. As I was browsing through the site the other day, I noticed one about delegating work. Hard for some; too easy for others. How does one delegate well?
Some struggle with the feeling that by delegating work to others, their actions would be deemed “bossy”. They may even concern themselves with possible accusations of being “lazy” by staff or fellow co workers. On the other hand, you have those extremely comfortable bosses who love to delegate. They delegate so much of their own work that you sometimes wonder why you aren’t getting their salary. These people feel very comfortable delegating without appreciating the work they are delving onto others.
How to strike a balance? The Wikihow article had some great tips that I would like to share with you all.
1. Choose the candidate to delegate the job to
2. Tell your candidate why you chose them to do the job
3. Explain the benefit to the candidate
4. Let them know what the perfect outcome looks like
5. Give clear deadlines
6. Make help and resources available
7. Create a chain of command
8. Confirm that they understand
9. Arrange communication details
10. Implement back up plans and stand ready to jump in if need be
11. Recognize your helper when it counts
12. Follow up on the completed task
Try these 12 steps out at the office next time you are delegating and see how it improves the process.

Delegating of a job is not a easy task as we have to be very careful whom we are delegating and what we are delegating and we should have a idea on their skill set and the confidence that they will be able to complete the task in the required time or not. A true managerial qualities can be seen in delegation of the job to the right person and getting it done.
human resource comes into play. to have a knowledge on delegating jobs to one person, knowledge on human resource is very important. you can have access to very important informations.
Yeah, maybe they dont have these experience and may have been in these positions by backing or bribe..i dont know. But delegating work to others is rather easy and by doing so they get used to it. The workers gets annoyed and have a bigger work load. Thats not fair sometimes.
You have a good understand of basic management. that is you have got to possess manageent skills. Even sometimes management skills doesnt ork out, you must have some general common sense.
Thanks for all the comments everyone.
I have to admit delegating is one of the things I am the worst at. I always end up with the attitude that I can just get it done quicker than I could to explain it to someone else to do.
Now if you could just explain how to do a “culture transplant” for working with remote workers from other cultures…where their work ethic is completely different (and, frankly, hard to see at all). Even doing all the stuff you mentioned above, you can’t force someone to take seriously the work you’ve delegated to them.
Thanks for this post.

nice article!
thanks for sharing. a bit complicated but will comprehend little by little
Is not that easy the thing about delegating of a job, you must know the person first and know about his or her capacity I also think you have to give this person the exact instructions about everything, communication is the main key if there is always a good feedback thing are going to be great.
Starting our day with news headlines is common. But to start with some morning thoughts and inspiring ideas, let us to do something good in our day to day life.
Great tips! It’s been my experience that leaders don’t delegate enough. Instead of working in the business, (especially small business owners) they should be spending some time working on the business, and you can’t do that if you don’t know how to delegate.
Great tips! It’s been my experience that leaders don’t delegate enough. Agreed totally.
