Facebook is getting ready to release member profiles to the search engines

September 13th, 2007 by

Christopher Kata We mentioned this earlier on the blog and now Facebook is making it a reality. As of today Facebook has made limited user profiles open to the search engines for indexing.

While it may be a disaster for some wishing to hide in the walled garden others will benefit by having their vanity search deliver up a facebook listing! Here is the official notice from the Facebook Blog.

What do you think of this change?

This sucks big time. FaceBook should consider the privacy of their members. Btw what benifit will this give to Facebook ?

That’s a really good question. I suppose it may generate some more users who may wish to use it as another entry in the SERPS for a vanity search? Beyond that I can’t think of anyting.
