Microsoft Is Officially Trying To Buy Yahoo!
February 1st, 2008 by hbond{{chris}} So it’s real this time – Microsoft is trying to buy Yahoo!
I am thrilled by this! It’s time that this merger happens. The news confirms Microsoft’s commitment to search and paid advertising and will give Yahoo! the financial support it needs to continue forward. To find out more checkout the post on seeking alpha.
What do you think about this merger?

I think that microsoft never buy yahoo!
I read on another blog that its definitely a done deal and Microsoft bought it, this is a big deal in the internet, personally I dont like Yahoo or MSN. They have a big challenge ahead of them if they want to compete with Google.
Well, its probably an easy sell when someone has been reading your blog for a year or so!
I have mixed feelings. On the one hand I love more competition for google, but on the other hand, the BIG behemoth Microsoft couldn’t get this “internet” thing, so why not buy it (Yahoo buyout)?
I’m not a big Microsoft fan as you can see, but I really do like the thought of search volume being more even and not so google dominated.
Its too early to tell. Yahoo is reported to be more keyword sensitive in the domain name than Google. That may cause webmasters to rethink their marketing plans for their clients. I remember putting some brand new sites in Yahoo that would end up the first link on page one merely because the keywords were in the domain. The merger would cause Yahoo and Microsoft to become a giant. Yes, it is definitely the time to run and submit a listing in the Yahoo Directory. Your earlier article about the Yahoo Directory now makes more sense than ever to do this and pay the $299.00. I would imagine there will be some value for being grandfathered in the directory because changes take place as well. Great post.
Thanks for the comments JACL. You’re right about Yahoo! and domains. The merger has so many positive things to it beyond search. I only hope that it goes through. Some serious competition for Google is only going to produce a flurry of innovation on both sides which in turn is good for consumers!
I think that there might actually be someone who could step up to Google if this happened. Although, even by merging the two of them, more than 85% of the webs searches take place at Google.
But every little bit helps right?
That would be one of the biggest deals of the decade
I have to agree with ckata. With a giant like microsoft behind yahoo, I think that will definately create some stiff competition quickly. Look at how microsoft has made sony compete in the video game console business.
Yup – Microsoft will certainly have the funds to see this through to a logical conclusion!
A yahoo microsoft tie up may be a good thing for the web as increasingly google are acting like the de facto ruler of the web. I’d rather have a duopoly than a monopoly.
I concur – I’d rather see these two companies with their deep pockets go head to head and produce some innovating new search technologies!
