Microsoft to release cross platform version of the .NET Framework

As reported in a Slashdot posting, Microsoft announced at the latest Mix07 conference. So what you may ask! Well having managed a lot of complex application development on the .NET platform I know how much easier it can be. Now the SEM can benefit from the ease of development on the .NET platform, and the reliability and SEO ability of the Unix platform.

This is a tremendous move with many benefits for all. Hopefully, the development community will embrace this opportunity and begin deploying their windows apps on Unix servers for a change. With my fingers crossed I hope Microsoft gives this latest opportunity enough time to take hold before considering dropping support for it!
