Social Networking Goes Mobile

It’s official. Social Networking has now gone mobile! With proliferation of 3G phones around the world accessing the Internet at hi speeds coupled with the increasing rate of users around the world experiencing the Internet for the first time through a phone it comes as no surprise that social networking sites have embraced the technology and gone mobile themselves. Advances in industry wireless network technologies such as SMS, WAP, Java, BREW and i-mode have combined to make it become a reality.

It’s a growing industry and it does not appear to be slowing down! Timmo Arnal has put together a nice post describing some mobile social networking initiatives that add to this overall phenomenon.
It’s here to stay folks, and it’s important that we continue to watch this trend. It could just be the next big source of leads for your business!

I was at a conference a few weeks ago where David Pogue was the keynote speaker. He said this year was the year of the cell phone, pointing to different ways the cell phone will impact businesses and people. I work in the nonproft technology industry and this a major trend we are seeing right now.
I just got an iPhone and was surprised how easy it was to access myspace and facebook. they’re all making it so easy. in the phillipines friendster is the number 1 way to get a hold of friends. thanks for posting.

It’s true – it’s becoming easier and easier to do these things from the phone. My favorite example is the convergence of video, audio, and blogging on the cell phone to produce live video podcasts right from the cell phone.
The information world is changing very fast, and unless we all pay attention it’s going to pass us all by.
Now they just need a good alogrithm for searching the web, thousands of clusters of servers, and they can BEAT GOOGLE!

That is crazy! I still have a basic cell phone that makes calls and texts. I guess I need to get up with the times.
I must say i myself sometimes access facebook from my phone but it is very inconvenient due to connection speed. There is only that much you can do.

well though my comment is 1 year late. But everyone knows that there are more mobile phones than PCs in the world. and even when you are on the go, you can be online. welcome to the new era. connectivity on the go (with facebook and myspace with you 24/7)
