Users Are Begining To Trust Information On Social Networks
November 10th, 2007 by hbond{{Chris}} WebProNews brings us a story about research from Faves.com which indicates that 36 percent of respondents highly trust the information they receive from “friends” on their social networks
That’s a huge statement to make. Highly Trust means a really qualified lead if you can get them to your site! With the proliferation of social networking sites and the increasing popularity of them it’s probably a good time to begin experimenting with advertising on these kinds of networks. Recent announcements from Facebook suggests that the networking sites themselves know the power of this form of advertising too.
I suspect that this trend will continue for some time as the social networking phenomenon really takes root over the next little while. Where it makes sense we’ll be experimenting with social networking sites – and we may just be recommending it for you too!

I use IE and your blog comes up a bit funny on it. The column of posts starts way down the page and is blank at the top. FYI
That is really relevant for those of us trying to do referral marketing through social networking sites. Thank you.
Absolutely! It is going to make a significant impact on where advertising dollars are being spent!
It’s interesting to watch eBay users. I’m not one of them, and it almost scares me to think about transactions with that much money involving strangers. But the social/communal system of trust they manage to build through feedback is amazing.
Then again, ten years ago, a lot of people thought it was amazing and unwise to use a credit card over the net… “The times they are a changin’.”
Hey Forrest,
I’m an eBay user myself and at first I was completely skeptical and expected not to get what I purchased. However, I did my diligence and made sure that the seller had a good reputation – and I received my purchase in good shape, and in a timely fashion. I’ve since purchased many products through eBay without a single hassle.
Also – many banks have recently begun offering single use credit card numbers – you can define the total amount to be spent, and define which company can charge that amount. This makes it impossible for you to compromise your credit card while shopping online!
The times are definitely changing!!
I think your right. I think that it is going to continue to grow and become more popular. The more people use it the more people with information will want to use it.
That’s right. The trick will be for these platforms not to ruin the experience for users with too many apps and widgets. I am already suffering app overload on Facebook
When it comes down to it, I think it just points at the shift in society away from traditional (Newspaper ,TV and Radio) To the internet in different sources.
I for one trust information on blogs, forums and the like much more frequently than what I hear on the news.
I agree completely! I’m far less likely to believe what I read in a magazine for example as they blend the advertising into the editorial too much for me to tell the difference!
Well said, this is true advertising through social networking sites is becoming more popular and could reach every1 in fast, quick and detailed manner. Nice post!
